The opportunity to prioritize rest
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for the opportunity to prioritize rest.
It would be simpler to just say I am grateful for prioritizing rest, but the truth is that I have really been struggling to make rest a priority, even though I so very dearly need it.
So as I move forward on the path to actually resting more, I am noticing how many opportunities I have, and how privileged I am to have them.
I have talked about Tricia Hersey and her Nap Ministry before, and her work is especially on my mind because (a) her new book Rest Is Resistance came out recently and (b) my new therapist told me to read it.
So I am reading the book, and it is reminding me of truths I know. Rest is so important. The world I live in does not particularly care if I get rest. I am nonetheless allowed to rest.
I wish it were easier for me to rest, and I am grateful for my opportunities to prioritize it. Specifically, yesterday, I was able to delegate a work responsibility and take a nap instead. And this morning, my toddler was not ready to wake up, and so we kept sleeping.
Rest does have a cost: someone else had to do my work; I had to bring my kid in late to school. But not resting has a cost, too: getting sick; feeling anxious, irritable, and discontent.
I’m so grateful I can choose to rest. I hope you have opportunities to prioritize rest, too.
Love > fear,
Christina
