This or something better
This #thankyouthursday I am grateful for “this or something better,” one of my favorite prayers.
As prayers go, “this or something better” gets big points for being both succinct and expansive. It allows me to cling to my specific desire (“this”) while simultaneously expressing surrender (“or”) and optimism (“something better”).
Simply put, “this or something better” is a profession of faith that makes room for my humanity.
Because although it is hard for me to let go of the idea of “this”—whatever “this” may be in a given plea—I frequently find myself the recipient of “something better,” instead.
I could give so many examples of this prayer/principle in practice, my spouse being one of them(!).
But, honestly, this morning I’m short on time and big on this prayer, so I’ll just leave things there.
Love > fear,
