The little things, which are really big
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for the little things, which are really big.
I wish I could tell you that I woke up this morning full of gratitude and optimism. Especially since today is Thanksgiving, aka the ultimate #thankyouthursday.
But the truth is I woke up out of sorts. This is a different Thanksgiving from any other I’ve experienced, and the disappointment of not seeing extended family or doing any of our usual traditions was feeling heavy.
And then.
I remembered that I’ve learned (through LOTS of trial and error) that the next right action is almost always my best option.
So.
I fed the baby. My partner and I talked about our needs and hopes for the day. I checked in with my sister. I went downstairs to feed myself—and remembered that we had frozen orange juice, and milk, and vanilla, and ice cubes, which meant that I could make orange julius.
I could make orange julius!
It’s a little thing, but it’s really a big thing, because growing up, we had orange julius every Thanksgiving while we watched the parade. So just when I thought all the traditions were out the window today, one surprised me.
It’s a little thing, but really a big thing, that we happened to have all those ingredients on hand. It’s a little thing, but really a big thing, that I know the trick of "next right action."
It’s a little thing, but really a big thing, that I get to share gratitude with you like this.
So however your Thanksgiving is looking or feeling today, I hope you know it’s perfectly okay. And I hope you can find something little—that’s really big—to appreciate.
Love > fear,
Christina
