The Great Unlearn
This #thankyouthursday I am grateful for The Great Unlearn.
Because—and I’m talking to my fellow White people here—we have a lot to (un)learn about racism. And while it is in no way the job of Black people to teach us, thankfully Rachel Cargle feels called to do so.
In addition to her existing writings and teachings—including a v. helpful (and humbling) series of Instagram posts she calls Saturday School—this year she created The Great Unlearn, a community via Patreon.
From Rachel: "My work here on Patreon is rooted in providing resources and critical discourse to aid in unlearning. I believe in knowledge leading to action and I use this platform to both provide education and inspire meaningful action."
To join, tiers start at $5/month; very literally a small price to pay.
We have work to do, and no one can do it for us...but it really helps to have good teachers. So this #thankyouthursday—and really, every day—I am grateful for good teachers, and I am committed to (un)learning, and I hope you are too.
Love > fear,
Christina
p.s. On a related note, as we continue to (un)learn, it’s important to distinguish between FEELING shame vs. BEING shamed...Brené Brown helped me understand that in a recent Unlocking Us episode that I also recommend.
