Self-centering
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for self-centering.
I don’t know if “self-centering” is an actual term or if it’s something I just now made up, but I really like the way it sounds, and the way it evokes the idea of “self-centered” but with an opposite connotation.
Because self-centering, as I define it, is the act of centering oneself. Getting grounded. Returning focus to my core; drawing attention away from external stressors and distractions and settling into the truth inside my breath.
Self-centering is very different from being self-centered. Self-centered people rarely consider the experiences, needs, or feelings of others. Whereas self-centering people so often consider others that they need to be reminded to come back to themselves.
But anyway. That’s enough of my improv regarding a word I may or may not have invented.
What I am trying to say is, my partner just took our toddler out of the house for about 20 minutes so I could write #thankyouthursday before we run errands, and I decided to sit still for a few minutes and to take a long shower instead of writing.
I was proud of myself for making that decision, which is when the concept of “self-centering” entered my head…and then I realized, now that I had some inspiration, I probably had time for writing as well as those other forms of self-care.
And here we are.
So! I’m going to continue self-centering now, and I hope you find a chance today to do the same.
Love > fear,
Christina
