Necessary hope
For months now I have been avoiding the news, with varying success. And especially for the last week, it’s proved impossible.
This is a good thing. I don’t want it to be possible to remain ignorant of what is happening in America right now. What is happening is important.
And it’s also sad, and scary, and hard.
And also, I have hope.
I have hope because the leadership of the church I work for is offering good guidance for getting our hearts right.
I have hope because the Confederate statues in my city are now in the process of being removed.
I have hope because I need to believe we are creating a world where skin color does not impact personal safety.
In other words, I have hope because I have to. Because, along with education and reflection and action, hope is necessary right now.
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for necessary hope. How about you?
Love > fear,
Christina
p.s. Black Lives Matter. That’s not really a “p.s.” kind of a statement, but, I wanted it to be the last thing you hear from me this week. You can donate to fuel their campaigns for justice.
