“Let the Rest Fall Through”
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for “Let the Rest Fall Through,” which is my favorite song off Kelley McRae’s new album, This Side of Night.
I first discovered Kelley McRae nearly ten years ago and have been devoted to her work ever since.
When we both lived in New York I used to go see her perform at The Living Room and Rockwood Music Hall and wherever else I could find her, and she was one of the first people to publicly support Are You My Boyfriend?, making me feel like I had officially joined the tribe of professional artists.
Now she lives in Texas and I’m in Virginia but her music still makes me feel close, so I was excited this spring when she announced a new album and started teasing tracks. As a Kickstarter backer, I’ve been soaking in This Side of Night since June, but it just officially released this week so I’ve been appreciating it all over again.
In particular, I am grateful for the song “Let the Rest Fall Through.” It’s exactly the reassurance and reminder I need these days, and if you have time to give it a listen, maybe it’ll make you feel good too. (Or if you prefer to watch, here’s a video.)
Love > fear,
Christina
p.s. It has in no way escaped my awareness—nor likely yours—that this is the final Thursday before Election Day. National news makes me too anxious right now, so I’ve been focusing on doing what I can to support local candidates and to take care of the most local environment of all: myself. (Hence listening to “Let the Rest Fall Through” on repeat.) Still, I would be remiss if I didn’t encourage you to vote, donate, and volunteer.
