Instant coffee
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for instant coffee.
My daughter is five weeks old. My son is very three-and-a-half. And it feels like I am constantly toggling my attention between the two of them, day and night, all the time.
Caffeine is not a long-term solution. Past a certain point of exhaustion, caffeine is not even a short-term solution. The true solutions are obviously sleep and nutrition and exercise and stress-reduction.
But caffeine is nonetheless a part of my days, and instant coffee contains it in my favorite form. With instant coffee I can control precisely how much I drink: maybe it’s a heaping spoonful to kickstart the day, and maybe it’s just a pinch to propel me through the late afternoon. Maybe it’s both, or neither (in which case it’s probably tea).
The thing about instant coffee is that, even if I choose not to drink it for weeks, I know it’s always there, ready and waiting in its cute little can.* And I am grateful.
Love > fear,
Christina
*I have become partial to Starbucks instant coffee, which is microground and tastes better than other brands I’ve tried. But if you’re mixing instant coffee with creamer and/or sweetener, I’ve found that any type will do the trick. I even keep a jar of decaf around to occasionally dilute the full-strength stuff.
