Having a good day on purpose
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for having a good day on purpose.
A few weeks ago, instead of saying, “Have a good day,” I heard someone say, “Have a good day on purpose.”
When I heard that, I found it clever and wise, and also kind of annoying. But the more I’ve thought about it, the more I’ve appreciated the intention behind a statement like that.
Which is to say: I can choose to have a good day. I can have a good day on purpose.
I definitely cannot control everything that happens in my day, much less in my life. In truth, given my current life stage (or maybe just, given the nature of life?), it’s not super likely that an entire stretch of waking hours will all be good.
But I can still decide my day will be good—and I can decide what “good” means to me.
Some days, “good” means achieving a 20-minute walk outside, or pausing to take a few calming breaths. “Good” could mean a little dancing in the kitchen. It could (and often does!) mean savoring a particularly fulfilling snack. And sometimes, “good” might just mean “not as hard as yesterday.”
The point is, I’ve begun actively looking for a daily version of good, on purpose. And it helps.
Love > fear,
