Going through the motions
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for going through the motions.
I’m not in a great mood today, and that’s okay—I can still go through the motions, do the things I need to do, even allow for some choices that could create joy, or at least endorphins. (Looking at you, exercise!)
A sizable part of me would prefer to just lay around, but experience has taught me that going through the motions is typically the better option. Not that napping can’t be one of the motions I go through—in fact, I’m about to go through that particular motion pretty soon here.
But even if the motion is to rest, it’s still an action—a deliberate decision, not a passive resignation. And actions are what move me toward the goals I care about.
