Gabby’s Dollhouse
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for Gabby’s Dollhouse.
There are an astonishing amount of shows targeted to preschoolers, and most of them repel me for one reason or another. Usually the same two reasons, actually: lack of diverse characters and/or obnoxious content.
Gabby’s Dollhouse stars a brown female alongside a cast of quirky cat characters, with songs so good I don’t even mind when they get stuck in my head.
Since I’m so discerning about what he watches, and since he’s gonna watch something at some point most days, it’s a true relief that no matter what the season or episode of “Gabby Cat,” I can feel confident he’s learning and/or having fun.
Because part of what enables me to regularly be present as a parent is my ability to occasionally clock out in 24-minute increments. I want that time to get dressed in the morning, or tidy up in the evening, or have a multi-sentence conversation with my partner or scroll Instagram or write #thankyouthursday.
So I’m very grateful Gabby’s Dollhouse exists—and that B loves it so much he hardly ever asks for anything else. Although we do also love Sesame Street and Bluey. Because obviously.
Love > fear,
