Creative inspiration
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for creative inspiration.
Four years ago I started a project that I thought could maybe be another published book.
(Note: If you don’t already know, my first published book is called Are You My Boyfriend?, and it makes a great gift!)
I spent a couple of years working on the new project, and I even completed a 57,000-word draft, which was a real milestone for me.
(Note: If you don’t already know, Are You My Boyfriend? is a picture book, so, not exactly a full-length novel.)
My plan was to revise the draft and submit it to agents before I had my baby in May 2020, because I knew life was going to change a lot once I had a baby.
Well. Turns out, life also changed a lot before I had the baby, and the draft is still unrevised. I forgive myself, though, because, like, being very pregnant as an unknown pandemic swept the globe was not a situation that nurtured my creativity.
All of which is to say, while I do actually consider my child an intense and significant act of ongoing creation, I have other ambitions that have been left in limbo.
Then!
Last weekend I was struck with creative inspiration.
There’s a lot more I want to tell you about that, but I’m going to wait, because I would rather tell you after I take more action.
For today, I just want to say, I am so grateful for creative inspiration. After so long without it, I forgot how wonderful creative inspiration feels, a sharp stab of exhilaration blended with relief: Oh! THAT’s what I’m supposed to do next!
So, here’s to what’s next. And for all the right nows that lead us there.
Love > fear,
Christina
