Clear and candid communication
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for clear and candid communication.
Given that much of my career has been devoted to clear and candid communication, I guess it makes sense that I really, really appreciate it.
But starting a new job, learning new protocols, and having lots of 1:1s with new colleagues has reminded me exactly how much it matters when communication is both honest and direct.
Of course, clear and candid communication is valuable in every aspect of life. Knowing exactly what someone means, needs, or expects makes it MUCH easier to navigate relationships of all kinds.
I feel fortunate to say that, for the most part, I take clear and candid communication for granted: It’s what I share with pretty much anyone who is close to me, because it’s pretty much the only way I can meaningfully (and sanely) engage with other humans.
But there are certainly times when communication gets muddled or delayed or obfuscated, and when that happens, I am all the more aware of how pleasantly accustomed I am to transparency and efficiency.
And in a way, the less satisfying encounters (like, say, one I had yesterday with a customer service representative) help me feel gratitude for all the positive ones.
Love > fear,
Christina
