An understanding of the long game
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for an understanding of the long game.
It is easy for me to feel impatient about my present circumstances: I want to already be well enough for long walks and outings. I want my older child to already like his new sibling. I want to already have solutions for a handful of current and looming challenges.
But instead, what I have already is this day, this breath, and a rock solid understanding of the long game. The actions I take today may not change much about my present circumstances, but I trust I am laying good groundwork for a fulfilling future.
Some of that future is imminent—I should be cleared for long walks in the next week, two tops.
And some of that future seems far down the road. (Like, I think/hope my kids will end up friends before adulthood, and I also know it could take months if not years.)
But I know what I’m working toward, and why, and even a decent amount of how. And my understanding of the long game helps me better appreciate the present, for which I am grateful, indeed.*
Love > fear,
