An assortment of small things
This #thankyouthursday, I am grateful for an assortment of small things.
Today was so long. It started out tough and marginally improved.
Now it is ending and my first swell of gratitude is for the fact that it is ending. But when I peer past my stress and exhaustion I can easily see a whole pile of loveliness, an assortment of small things that made this day worth living:
My daughter’s gummy grin, my son’s self-confidence, my spouse’s self-awareness, my neighbor’s generosity. Encouraging progress on a work project, delicious dinner I didn’t cook. The choice to lie down and rest for 30 minutes instead of powering through.
And there’s also the small things happening right now: my heartbeats, my breaths, the grunting murmurs of the baby at my breast. I am pausing. I am writing. I am here.
Love > fear,
